The class of the MAC proved to be just that, as the Miami Redhawks overpowered Missouri State field hockey, a 9-0 MSU loss in Oxford, Ohio.

The Redhawks had only four more shots on goal than the Bears, but made the most of their opportunities. Miami scored nine goals on only 11 shots, while MSU was shutout despite firing seven shots on goal, 15 shots altogether.

Missouri State fell behind early as Miami scored in the 12th minute, while on their way to a 4-0 halftime lead.

After intermission, sophomore Mackenzie Crawford (Dublin, Ohio) saw her first action of the season between the pipes, replacing freshman Steph Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa.), but the goalkeeper switch could not stop the bleeding. The Redhawks scored five more goals in the second half. The nine goals are the most MSU has allowed in a game this season.

Miami accomplished something no other MAC school has so far this season; they held the Bears' offense in check. Entering today's game, MSU had scored nine goals in three conference games.

It was the first time the Bears have been shutout since facing 18th-ranked Northwestern, September 18.

The Bears drop to 4-9 on the season, 1-3 in the MAC. Miami improves to 8-4, 5-0 in conference. The Redhawks have now won seven-straight games.

MSU is off until October 17, when they travel to take on Kent State.
