Senior midfielder Samantha Aguilar buried a late goal as the Missouri State women’s soccer team defeated Drury, 1-0, in the Bears' 2009 exhibition opener at Plaster Field.

Freshman Claire Hulcer fed an open Aguilar in a two-on-one in the 88th minute.  Aguilar’s boot from 15 yards out beat Drury keeper Jessie Sanderson into the upper right corner.

Bears sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Teahan made four saves to preserve the shutout for a Missouri State defense that was solid all game.  Teahan played the entire match for the Bears and was untested in the first half.

After some early first half ball control by the Panthers, Missouri State found its groove and controlled the rest of the half registering six shots before halftime.  The Bears came out of halftime firing and added seven shots in the second half including Aguilar’s goal.

Freshmen Grace Cross, Becky Handley, Claire Hulcer and Rachel Weimer each had a shot on goal for the Bears.  Missouri State was unsuccessful on the four corner kicks it took, while only allowing two corners to Drury.

The Bears will host Missouri Southern State University in another exhibition match at Plaster Field tomorrow with kickoff at 3:00 p.m.
