The Missouri State women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to conference foe Illinois State on Sunday afternoon in Normal, Illinois. The Bears are now 9-6-1 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. Illinois State improved their record to 9-7-1 and the Redbirds are 4-1 in MVC action.
Illinois State’s Jess Carlson netted her third goal of the season from six yards out when she one-timed the ball into the back of the left side of the net in the 9th minute of the contest giving the Redbirds a 1-0 lead over the Bears.
The Redbirds struck again in the second-half of the match at the 78:54 minute mark when senior forward Mel Routledge sent the ball into the upper half of the net from four yards out off a pass from Natalie McCabe.
The Bears were limited offensively posting only seven shots to Illinois State’s 22. Samantha Aguilar, Jenna Dobkins and Kelsey Finders each posted two shots for the Bears.
The Redbirds earned 13 corner kicks in the match compared to the Bears’ zero. Missouri State senior goalie Jackie Jasper posted six saves, taking the loss between the pipes. Redbird keeper Sasha Reiber recorded four of her own.
The Missouri State women’s soccer team will return home for its final conference home game on Friday, Oct. 31. The Bears will challenge Indiana State University in a 7:00 p.m. match.
