The Missouri State volleyball team closed the regular season Friday with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-13 loss to visiting Wichita State as the 11th-ranked Shockers completed their regular season schedule undefeated at 29-0 overall and 18-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Bears dropped to 20-12 and 11-7 in the league as WSU ripped off its 38th consecutive MVC road win.
The first set of the match proved to be the closest as MSU fought back from a 19-12 deficit to cut the Shocker lead to three at 22-19. WSU came out with the win despite the Bears leading in hitting percentage by a .257-.211 margin and committing just three errors.
After that, Wichita State hit .387 to .122 for the Bears in handily winning the final two sets.
For Missouri State, sophomore Bethany Fuller paced the offense with eight kills on 13 swings for a .615 hitting percentage. Cara Hackmann had seven kills and hit .333, freshman Calli Norman had five blocks and Terri Del Conte had 16 digs to reach double figures for the 22nd match in a row.
Senior Nikki Vandepopulier scooped seven digs to move her into 10th place on MSU’s career digs list with 1,137.
The Bears take a No. 4 seed into next week’s State Farm MVC Tournament and will face either Illinois State or Evansville on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 8 p.m. A win in that match would set up a rematch with the top-seeded Shockers at 7 p.m. the next night.
