The Missouri State men’s soccer team found itself in an all too familiar situation Saturday. UNLV shut out the Bears 1-0 to conclude the Rebels’ Tournament. MSU is now 2-5-1 overall following its third consecutive 1-0 loss.
The script remained the same for the hard-luck Bears, who have scored just a lone goal in four consecutive road games. A scrappy MSU defense anchored by senior goalkeeper Lance Parker kept the Rebels scoreless in the first half. It marked the third time in as many matches the Bears’ defense has held its opponent scoreless in the first half.
Parker was a busy man throughout the contest though, recording four saves in each half. The Bears managed a single shot on goal in the first half and added three more in the second half. UNLV outshot the Bears by a 16-8 margin overall..
A blast from outside the box by Rebel forward Daniel Cruz broke the scoreless tie in the game’s 50th minute.
The Bears will compete in their fourth consecutive weekend tournament September 28-29 at Bradley. Missouri State will play Illinois-Chicago, Friday, and Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis, Saturday.
