A pair of senior, four-year standouts who capped their athletic and academic careers with even more noteworthy accomplishments have been named to receive the final two intercollegiate athletics awards given for the 2006-07 athletics and academic year at Missouri State University.

   Golfer Sally Hinton has been named to receive the 2007 Missouri State Outstanding Female Athlete Award for her accomplishments while field hockey player Melissa Behr is the winner of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Senior Female Scholar Athlete Award.

   The Outstanding Female Athlete Award comes from a vote of Missouri State women’s sports head coaches. The Scholar Athlete Award is presented to the graduating senior female athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. It was renamed in 1998 in honor of former senior associate director of athletics Dr. Mary Jo Wynn. Both awards were established in 1981.

   Hinton becomes the first Missouri State golfer to win the Outstanding Female Athlete award in its 28-year history. A native of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England, who received her undergraduate degree in May, Hinton was voted the 2007 MVC Player of the Year in golf as she led conference with a season scoring average of 75.6 strokes. She completed her career as the school leader in career scoring average with 76.7 mark. As a senior, she was named MVC Player of the Week three times. Her final season saw her win the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City and the Nebraska Invitational while finishing second at the Oral Roberts Shootout and fourth at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. Her final-round score of 69 and 54-hole total of 219 at the Oral Roberts Shootout in October set school records for 18- and 54-hole scores. She became only the fifth player in league history to earn all-conference honors all four years. Hinton was also recently named to MVC Women’s Golf All-Centennial Team.
