Matt Lawson, Missouri State’s second baseman from 2005 to 2007, has been selected as a Class A California League All-Star and will play in the California-Carolina All-Star Game on June 23 in Lake Elsinore, Calif.
A native of Carl Junction, Mo., Lawson is hitting .286 through 62 games with the Bakersfield Blaze this spring, collecting 67 hits in 234 at bats, including seven homers, six doubles, a triple and 31 RBIs. Lawson has scored 36 runs and swiped five bases in seven tries.
At Missouri State, Lawson was a two-time all-conference pick, earning second-team honors in 2006 when he hit .330 and stole 20 bases. He hit .270 as a junior in 2007 with 29 RBIs and 17 steals to grab honorable mention all-MVC accolades. He ranks sixth in MSU history with 371 assists and eighth with 91 double plays turned.
A 14th-round draft pick of Texas in 2007, Lawson remains with the organization and could make a return to Hammons Field as a member of the Frisco Roughriders should he be promoted to Double-A.
