The Missouri State women's soccer team dropped the regular season opener to the Oklahoma Sooners, 3-0, at John Crain Field tonight.
The Bears offense fired 12 shots in the match, but Sooner keeper Kelsey Devonshire only had to make two saves. Senior Samantha Aguilar led the Bears in shots with four, while freshmen Michelle Sommer and Rachel Weimer each added two.
Missouri State goalkeeper Jessica Teahan made four saves on the night, but two first-half goals by the Sooners were too much to overtake. A young Bears team that had eight freshmen see the pitch, showed promise in garnering two second-half corners.
"We had chances throughout the game, but just couldn't get the ball in the net," said head coach Rob Brewer. "It was a great learning experience for our girls. We have things to work on and they are things we can fix."
Missouri State travels to Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, August 28, to face Austin Peay State University to open the Razorback Invitational. Friday's match kicks off at Razorback Field at 4:30 p.m.
