  Flexible forward who is a great rebounder and consistent scorer . . . Will push for playing time his first year at Missouri State and add size to the Bears’ lineup . . . Takes pride in getting position under the basket, but also considers himself a good leaper with solid basketball instincts.

 

Background

  Was a McDonald’s All-American candidate at South Eugene High School in Eugene, Ore., his senior season for coach Dave Hancock . . . Averaged 19.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, while claiming first-team all-Southwest Conference honors and Oregon All-Star Game selection and helping his team to the state final 16 . . . Broke the South Eugene school record for rebounding his 12th grade season with 262 boards. . . Also posted career highs of 37 points and 16 rebounds his senior year . . . Averaged 15.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game his junior year while claiming honorable mention all-conference and all-state laurels . . . Team made it to the final 32 of the state tournament his junior season . . . Was also a varsity starter his sophomore year as a pivotal part of a 21-4 squad that won the Southwest Conference with an undefeated record . . . Averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds his sophomore year as a contributor on the state quarterfinalist team.

  John Stanley Hayward-Mayhew was born October 4, 1989 in Seattle, Wash . . . He is the son of Stan Mayhew and Christine Hayward-Mayhew of Eugene, Ore. . . His father, Stan, played college basketball at Weber State and was drafted by the Indiana Pacers, later playing 15 years in Europe . . . Has a sister, Clarice . . . He plans to major in business at Missouri State.
